What Is Practice Mode?
MySudokuWorld's Practice Mode is a relaxed, pressure-free Sudoku environment designed specifically for learning and skill development. Unlike timed game modes or competitive challenges, Practice Mode has no countdown, no penalties for incorrect placements, and no restrictions on hints. You can take as long as you need, experiment freely, and use the available tools to understand why each move is correct — not just what to place next.
Practice Mode is particularly valuable for players who are learning a new technique — such as Hidden Pairs or X-Wing — and want to apply it on real puzzles without the stress of a timer. You can pause, think, use hints to check your reasoning, undo incorrect moves without penalty, and restart the puzzle as many times as you need.
Many experienced solvers use Practice Mode as a warm-up before their daily challenge, or as a testing ground for new techniques they have just learned in the Academy. The combination of an unstructured environment and unlimited hints makes it the ideal bridge between learning a technique in isolation (Academy lessons) and applying it independently under time pressure (timed modes).
How to Get the Most Out of Practice Mode
Choose the right difficulty for your current level
Practice Mode lets you select any difficulty: Easy, Medium, Hard, or Expert. Match the difficulty to the technique you are practicing. If you are working on Hidden Singles, start on Medium. If you are practicing X-Wing, use Hard. Choosing too easy a difficulty means the technique you want to practice may not appear on the board.
Practice one technique at a time
The most efficient practice sessions are focused on a single technique. For example: spend an entire session looking only for Pointing Pairs. Try to find each one before using a hint. This deliberate, narrow focus builds pattern recognition far faster than general solving.
Use hints as learning tools, not shortcuts
When you are stuck, try to identify the next logical move before requesting a hint. Struggle productively for 5–10 minutes. When you do use a hint, read the explanation carefully — understand which technique was applied and why it was valid before moving on.
Enable pencil marks from the start
For Medium difficulty and above, activate the pencil mark / candidate mode at the beginning of the puzzle and maintain a full, accurate candidate list throughout. Practicing with pencil marks trains the habit of systematic candidate tracking, which is essential for Hard and Expert solving.
Combine with Academy lessons
The most effective learning workflow is: read the Academy lesson for a technique → use Practice Mode to find that technique on real puzzles → get hints when stuck → return to the lesson if confused. This cycle of theory → practice → feedback → theory accelerates skill acquisition dramatically.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are practice puzzles different every time?
Yes. MySudokuWorld generates fresh puzzles for each practice session, so you will never see the same puzzle twice. Each puzzle is verified to have a unique solution and is constructed to require the techniques appropriate for its difficulty level.
Does practice mode save my progress?
When you are logged in, your current practice session is saved automatically so you can return to it later. Anonymous sessions are saved in your browser's local storage for the duration of the browser session.
Can I use Practice Mode to prepare for the Daily Challenge?
Absolutely. Many players warm up with one or two practice sessions before tackling the daily challenge. Choose a difficulty close to the day's challenge difficulty to calibrate your solving rhythm.
Is Practice Mode available on mobile?
Yes. Practice Mode is fully responsive and optimized for mobile devices. The digit entry, pencil mark controls, and hint buttons are all touch-friendly and designed for comfortable one-handed operation on phones.
How does Practice Mode interact with the AI Coach?
Practice Mode and the AI Coach are separate features. The AI Coach is available under Academy > AI Coach and loads its own puzzle session. However, the skills you develop in Practice Mode directly support your AI Coach sessions — and vice versa.
