The 8-Player Sudoku Sprint
If the Head-to-Head Challenge is a tactical duel, Race Mode is a chaotic sprint. Up to 8 players drop into a live lobby and are presented with the exact same Sudoku grid. When the countdown hits zero, everyone scrambles to solve it as quickly as possible. The first player to submit a correct, fully completed grid takes 1st place and the lion's share of the ranking points.
Unlike 1v1 where you only track one opponent, Race Mode features a live leaderboard on the side of your screen showing the completion percentage of all 7 opponents in real time. Seeing multiple players suddenly jump from 50% to 80% completion adds intense time pressure, testing your ability to execute advanced techniques like X-Wings or Hidden Pairs without panicking.
Races will be available in all difficulty tiers. An Easy Race might be over in 90 seconds, serving as a pure test of scanning speed and mechanics. An Expert Race might take 15 minutes and become a battle of attrition, where players who make a candidate-tracking mistake early on fall hopelessly behind.
Lobbies and Matchmaking
You can join public Race lobbies via quick-match, which groups you with players of similar skill levels based on your global Race Rating. Alternatively, you can create a private lobby and invite your friends, club members, or community rivals for a private tournament.
In public matchmaking, placing in the top 3 awards positive rating points, while finishing in the bottom half will decrease your rating. Consistently winning races will rank you up to higher competitive tiers, where the puzzles are harder and the opponents are faster.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are hints allowed in Race Mode?
No. To ensure a fair competitive environment, all hints, auto-solvers, and error-checking tools are strictly disabled during public ranked races.
What happens if I enter a wrong number?
You won't know it's wrong immediately (error highlighting is disabled). If you submit a completed board with errors, you receive a time penalty before you can fix it and resubmit.
Can I spectate a race after I finish?
Yes! Once you submit your grid (or give up), you enter spectator mode and can watch the remaining players' cursors and grid progress in real time.
Do I need a fast internet connection?
Race Mode uses lightweight WebSockets to sync progress. As long as your connection is stable, high latency will not severely impact your ability to solve the puzzle.
